چکیده

In traditional inventory models such as the economic order quantity (EOQ) and the economic production quantity (EPQ) the sole objective is to minimize the total inventory-related costs, typically holding cost and ordering cost. These models do not consider the presence of defective products in the lot or rework of them. Recently, Jamal, Sarker, and Mondal (Jamal, A. A. M., Sarker, B. R., & Mondal, S., (2004). Optimal manufacturing batch size with rework process at single-stage production system. Computers and Industrial Engineering, 47(1), 77–89) proposed a model, which dealt with the optimum batch quantity in a single-stage system in which rework is done by addressing two different operational policies to minimize the total system cost, but their models do not consider planned backorders. In this direction, this paper develops an EPQ type inventory model with planned backorders for determining the economic production quantity for a single product, which is manufactured in a single-stage manufacturing system that generates imperfect quality products, and all these defective products are reworked in the same cycle. We also establish the range of real values of the proportion of defective products for which there is an optimal solution, and the close form for the total cost of inventory system. The use of the inventory model is illustrated with numerical examples. The classical EOQ, EPQ inventory models with or without planned backorders and Jamal, Sarker and Mondal’s model (Jamal, A. A. M., Sarker, B. R., & Mondal, S., (2004). Optimal manufacturing batch size with rework process at single-stage production system. Computers and Industrial Engineering, 47(1), 77–89) are shown to be special cases of the EPQ inventory model presented

Scheduling Accumulated Rework in a Normal Cycle: Optimal Batch Production with Minimum Rework Cycles

In this paper we consider a single machine system that produces items part of which are defective. The defective items produced in a time period, consisting of several equal cycles, are accumulated and are all reworked in the last cycle of this period called the rework cycle. At the end of the rework cycle the whole process will start all over again. The first significant objective of this stud...

Optimal Batch Production for a Single Machine System with Accumulated Defectives and Random Rate of Rework

In this paper we consider an imperfect production system which produces good and defective items and assume that defective items can be reworked. Due to the nature of rework process we do not restrict the rework rate to be equal to normal production rate or constant and assume that it is a random variable with an arbitrary distribution function. We also assume as it is true in most real world s...

Optimal lot size of EPQ model considering imperfect and defective products

The economic production quantity (EPQ) is a commonly used inventory model. An assumption in the EPQ model is that all units produced are perfect. Some researchers have studied the effects after relaxing this assumption on the inventory models. The objective of this paper is to determine the economic production quantity with reduced pricing, rework and reject situations in a single-stage system ...

Economic Production Quantity in Reworkable Production Systems with Inspection Errors, Scraps and Backlogging

The classical economic production quantity (EPQ) model is a well-known and commonly used inventory control technique. Common assumptions in this model are that all units produced are of perfect quality and shortage is not allowed, since in practice shortage, non-conforming product or scrap items are possible, these assumptions will underestimate the actual required quantity. The objective of th...
